Day 1:

9:30 – 11:00
Personal introductions by facilitators.
The Name Game ­ Add an adjective in front of your name and announce it. Introduce each other in
random fashion using each others names.
Introduction Game: Split into pairs and introduced one another.
What is FOSS? ­ A discussion of the community development model vs the closed development
model and the implication of patents.
11:00 – 13:30
The Ubuntu Desktop ­ Navigating around the desktop. A brief overview of the menu system, interface
and installed applications.
14:45 ­ 18:00
Game ­ Ordering and planning for priorities.
Spectrogram ­ It's ok to use pirated software? It's unacceptable to share music? If I have the money to
use the latest hardware and software systems then I will always upgrade?

Day 2:

9:00 – 10:00
Discussion ­ The politics and philosophy of open source software.
10:00 ­ 11:30
The Ubuntu Live CD ­ Installation options and theory of disk partitioning.
11:30 ­ 13:00
Open office ­ Applying styles, editing styles, document properties, creating a table of contents.
14:30 ­ 16:00
Localistion ­ Fonts, input methods,
16:30 ­ 18:00
Plone ­ Adding users and Plone objects. W orkflow exercise. Mukesh and Pankti presented the smart
folder concept.

Day 3:

9:00 – 11:30
Introductions to Swapnii Hazare
Presentations of Pankti, Ajay and Mukesh
GIS systems and localisation by Swapnii Hazare.
Conclusion of GIS presentation and photographs.
11:30 ­ 13:00
Hands on Firefox ­ Introduction to advantages of Firefox. Navigating the interface and searching.
Using tabs to open multiple links. Security features. RSS bookmarks. Customisation with plugins.
14:30 ­ 16:00
Graphics ­ File types ­ TIF, BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG. Explanation of compressions. Colour depth in non
photographic images. Saving in .gif and .jpeg format. Selection tools. Croping, resizing canvas.

Security on Windows: Detecting Trojans.
Firefox plugins: For removing adverts.

Discussion on migration: Two case studies.
